Solan, January 16
Locating suitable land for opening a SDM’s office in the Kasauli assembly constituency has become a Herculean task for the district administration as there is paucity of space to suitably house this key office and related paraphernalia.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had announced opening of this office during his recent visit to Parwanoo where the local MLA and Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Rajiv Saizal had raised this demand.
Since some Assembly constituencies have more than one SDM office, the absence of even one such office was discriminatory.
Dr Saizal, when contacted, said that they would endeavour to get the SDM office opened at Kasauli at the earliest so that people can be facilitated as at present they have to travel to Solan for their work.
Kasauli was being pegged as the most appropriate area for housing this office but given the paucity of space in the town as it was a cantonment, the district administration was endeavouring to locate an appropriate land in its precincts.
An illustration of paucity of land could be judged from the fact that the sub-treasury office at Kasauli was located on the fourth floor.
Since pensioners have to visit this office for marking their attendance annually, reaching fourth floor was no less than an ordeal for them.
Asked about the issue, Deputy Commissioner, Solan, KC Chaman, said revenue staff had been directed to find out suitable land in the precincts of Kasauli for housing a mini secretariat where SDM’s and related offices can be suitably housed along with provision for parking. Space is a major constraint in the Kasauli area and finding appropriate land is the major challenge for the district administration.
He added that efforts would also be made to re-locate the sub-treasury so that the elderly pensioners are not inconvenienced.
