Landslide lockdown: Cadets find haven in Pandoh

A group of NCC cadets from the remote Janjehli region of Mandi district, who were participating in an NCC camp in Pandoh, were stranded due to the natural disaster that struck the area at midnight on June 30. As roads were blocked and return to their hometown became impossible, district authorities intervened to provide them with shelter and support.

The NCC cadets were accommodated in an emergency relief camp set up at PM SHRI Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pandoh, where they received proper lodging and meals.

The ATC 191 Army Training Camp, organised from June 24 to July 3, at PM SHRI Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, included 41 NCC cadets, both boys and girls, from Government Senior Secondary School, Janjehli. On June 30, heavy rains triggered landslides and road blockages in the Seraj region, cutting off access routes and preventing the cadets from returning home.

Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan said the district administration set up a relief camp on the school premises to ensure the safety and well-being of the NCC cadets.

Cadets Bhaskar, Charu and Shreya expressed deep gratitude to the state government, district administration, NCC officers, and school authorities. They said they got everything — from our accommodation to food — at the school.
