The landslide rendered one building in a precarious position. The residents have vacated the building. The landslide disrupted traffic on the Circular Road in Shimla. The Public Works Department (PWD) cleared the debris by this evening but traffic movement was yet to be restored.
“Buses are operating up to the landslide point from both sides, but are not being allowed to cross over. Commuters are crossing the point on foot and are taking buses from the other side,” said an office-goer.
A landslide had occurred close to the current site a few days ago which had damaged several vehicles. Incidentally, during the 2023 monsoon season, a major landslide had occurred close this point. At that time, the adjacent building had come under threat. In due course of time, a huge retaining wall was erected to save the building.
While St. Edward’s School, which is quite close to the landslide site, was closed, students of other schools had to walk to their institutions. Many people also walked to their offices.
