Last date for maize, paddy crop insurance in Hamirpur extended

The state government has decided to extend the deadline for insurance of maize and paddy crops by over two weeks till July 31, a government official said.

In the Hamirpur district, maize and paddy crops are being insured under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in the current Kharif season. Earlier, the last date was July 15.

Shashi Pal Atri, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Hamirpur, said that the last date for the insurance of these crops had now been extended to July 31. He added that all tehsils and sub-tehsils of Hamirpur district had been notified for maize crop, whereas Hamirpur, Nadaun and Bhoranj tehsils had been notified for paddy crop insurance. All farmers, including sharecroppers and tenants, growing maize and paddy crops in the notified tehsils and sub-tehsils could get insurance.

Farmers can get their crops covered through an insurance company or nearest Lok Mitra Kendras, banks or online, along with their photo identity card, Aadhar card and their land papers, he said, adding that department officials can be contacted for consultation regarding the scheme.

All farmers (who have taken a loan from any bank or other financial institution) will be automatically insured by the financial institutions.

For the insurance of maize and paddy crops, a premium of Rs 1,200 per hectare has been fixed, and the insured amount will be Rs 60,000 per hectare.
