Leadership is an applied science and art. It is to be learnt as a science and applied as an art. This was stated by former Army chief Gen VP Malik (retd), at the launch of the Centre for leadership coaching at Shoolini University today.

Gen Malik said leaders need to learn and lead the change, adding that leadership was the art of accomplishing more than the science of management said was possible. He emphasised the importance of foundational leadership skills that should be cultivated from an early age. He asserted that effective leadership principles remain constant across contexts, highlighting that leadership comprises 30 per cent knowledge and skill, but is predominantly influenced by attitude.

The former Army chief, who led the country to victory in Kargil War, offered valuable tips on leadership. He said good leaders must enjoy their professional work, but must also find time for family and friends. He said it was also important that one must take care of their health.

Stating that it was the first Centre for leadership coaching in any academic institution in the country, Mook said Shoolini University could serve as a model for implementing coaching practices that validate knowledge and experience while addressing mental wellbeing.
