The Himachal Pradesh School Lecturers’ Association has raised concern over the state government’s failure to fill 825 vacant posts of principals in government senior secondary schools across the state.

Association president Ajay Negi, after chairing a virtual meeting, expressed resentment at the fact that no promotions have been carried out for the past two and a half years. He pointed out that many lecturers are retiring without availing their rightful promotion to the rank of principal.

In a press release, Negi said the prolonged vacancies have severely disrupted the administrative setup of schools. The association strongly criticised the government’s argument that promotions would create faculty shortages and disrupt studies. Negi countered that even after being promoted, principals would continue teaching their subjects while also handling administrative duties.

He emphasised that promotions would actually strengthen the teaching system, improve the quality of education and reduce the financial burden of appointing additional staff.
