Rajesh Kumar, president of the Bikers Union, Manali, has said the Bikers Union, Leh, warned them that they will not allow the state bikes to ply towards Leh beyond Sarchu. Sarchu is the border village of HP and Ladakh.
He said: “In Manali, there are around 130 persons, who provide bikes on rent to Leh tourists. This year, an agreement had been signed between Manali and Leh unions in which it was agreed that HP registration bikes would not be allowed to Ladakh tourist destinations. Similarly, Ladakh bikes would not go to Manali.”
“A few days ago, the Leh union alleged that they had noticed some bikers of Manali at tourist destinations in Leh, affecting the livelihood of local bikers. They had decided to stop Manali bikes beyond Sarchu,” he added.
Tanzin, general secretary of the Bikers Union, Manali, said, “Today, the Leh union again warned our members to return to Manali or get ready to face the consequences.”
“We have the valid all-India permit to provide the bikes to our customers. We urge the Manali and Leh administration to intervene and sort out the issue amicably,” he said.
