Light to moderate rain across Himachal Pradesh, 46 water schemes hit

The state received widespread light to moderate rainfall over the last 24 hours, leading to the obstruction of 32 roads and disruption of 39 power distribution transformers and 46 water supply schemes. Most of the affected roads are in Mandi district (19), followed by Shimla (7).

The maximum number of distribution transformers have been affected in Kullu district (36), followed by three in Chamba. Out of the 46 affected water supply schemes, the maximum fall in Shimla and Sirmaur districts (17 each). As many as 10 schemes have been affected in Bilaspur district.

As for the forecast, the Weather Department has issued a yellow alert for the next three days for thunderstorm with lightning at isolated places. For July 11-12, the department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain along with thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places. The department has also warned of localised flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas and occasional reduction in visibility due to rainfall.

Over the last 24 hours, no noticeable change in minimum and maximum temperatures was noticed. The average minimum and average maximum temperatures are normal. The lowest temperature was recorded at Kukumseri (10.6 degree Celsius), while the maximum temperature has been recorded in Una (35.6 degree Celsius).

The overall departure in precipitation from normal in the first eight days of the month is now 58 per cent. Apart from the district of Una, Sirmaur and Lahaul and Spiti, the remaining nine districts have recorded excess rainfall, with Kangra and Mandi receiving the highest rainfall during this period.
