Even as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the probe into the death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), will be done by an Additional Chief Secretary level officer, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur sought a CBI inquiry into the matter.
It may be recalled that Negi had gone missing on March 10, and his body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on Tuesday.
Negi's family and HPPCL employees have leveled allegations of an unfriendly work environment at the office.
Making a statement in the House over Negi's death, the Chief Minister said the government would take strict action if someone is found responsible for Negi's death in the inquiry.
The Leader of Opposition, however, demanded a CBI inquiry to ensure a fair and transparent probe.
"There are talks that he was under intense pressure in his office. We need to find out what kind of pressure he was under. We have been hearing about the work environment of HPPCL for quite some time now. We need to get to the bottom of the matter, and give the probe to the CBI," said Thakur.
