Multiple flashflood incidents triggered by sudden rise in water levels have caused significant disruption across key routes in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh today. As per reports from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Lahaul and Spiti, three vital highways — the Losar–Kunzum road (NH-505), Darcha–Shinkula road and Manali–Leh NH-03 — have been blocked, leaving several vehicles stranded and halting all movement.

According to the District Police Control Room (DPCR) Keylong, a flashflood in a local nullah, approximately 2 km from Losar, has blocked the Losar–Kunzum road on National Highway 505. Some vehicles are reported stranded at the site. The company, responsible for maintenance in the area has been alerted and is expected to begin restoration efforts.

The Darcha–Shinkula road has been completely washed away approximately nine kms ahead of Zanskar-Sumdo section due to a sudden surge in water level in a nullah. The route, critical for connectivity to Shinkula Pass, has been rendered inaccessible. Restoration work will only begin once the water recedes and conditions are deemed safe for heavy machinery and personnel, stated officials from 126 RCC (Border Roads Organisation).

The popular Manali–Leh National Highway (NH-03) has also been blocked near Zingzingbar following another flash flood. The DPCR, Keylong, has coordinated with relevant authorities and the restoration work is currently underway to reopen the route as quickly as possible.

The DDMA, Lahaul and Spiti, has advised residents, tourists and transporters to avoid travel in the affected areas until the roads are declared safe. These flash flood events have once again highlighted the vulnerability of Himalayan highways to sudden weather events and the urgent need for proactive disaster preparedness in high-altitude regions. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
