LPG-laden vehicle overturns in Dehra; driver killed, 2 hurt

A driver was killed and two others injured when a vehicle carrying LPG cylinders overturned in the Beh Dhonta area of Dehra subdivision yesterday. Deep Chand, a resident of Jalandhar Lahad in Dehra, died on the spot, while two other employees Devendra Singh Pintu and Kamal got injured. A major incident was averted as the cylinders loaded in the vehicle did not explode due to the impact.

On getting to know about the accident, local people immediately reached the spot and started rescue work. Eyewitness Sanjay Dogra said the accident happened due to the brake failure. Dogra took a seriously injured Devendra Singh to Civil Hospital at Dehra in his vehicle, where doctors declared him out of danger. Kamal suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment.

The vehicle belonging to Akash Gas Service, Dehra, was supplying LPG cylinders in the Beh Dhonta area when it went out of control and overturned on the side of the road.

Sources said the vehicle being used for carry gas cylinders was very old and complaints of technical flaws in it had been reported earlier too. The police have registered a case and started an investigation. Dehra MLA Kamlesh Thakur and former minister Bikram Singh Thakur have expressed deep condolences on the death of driver Deep Chand. The MLA assured that all possible help will be provided to the victim’s family at the administrative level.
