In a swift breakthrough, Kangra Police arrested five individuals within 32 hours of a firing incident that occurred on the intervening night of September 19-20 near Kotwali Bazaar, Dharamsala. A man was shot during a scuffle with local youths, after which the assailants fled.
A case was registered under FIR No 153/2025 at Dharamsala Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and the Arms Act, 1959. With no eyewitnesses or leads, it was termed a blind case.
Asho Rattan, SP Kangra, formed a special team which was immediately dispatched to the neighbouring states. Using a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team traced the accused to Amritsar, Punjab, where all five were arrested on September 21. They have been identified as Jaspreet Singh (30), the main accused who opened fired, Ranjeet Singh (28), Arshpreet Singh (31), Jitendra Singh (24) and Neeraj (26)
All hail from Batala tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab. The vehicle used during the crime has been recovered. Legal proceedings are underway and further interrogation is ongoing.
The SP emphasised the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime, stating, “No criminal will be spared. Any disruption of law and order will be dealt with strictly.”
