Solan, July 14
The maize crop is facing fall armyworm pest attack in Darlaghat, Kunihar and areas of Nalagarh in Solan district for the past few days.
Farmers are upset that this is the third consecutive year when the pest infestation has occurred. Naresh, a maize grower of Domehar, says that the pest infestation was visible in his field last week. Elongated papery windows were seen spreading all over the leaves in a few plants when the pest attacked the maize crop. This symptom was caused by larvae.
The disease is also visible in Ramshehar, Panjera and areas in Nalagarh. Dharampal Gautam, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Solan, says the fall armywork infestation has been reported in Darlaghat, Kunihar, Domehar and Nalagarh. Sale centres have been provided chemical and farmers are being apprised about its use. There is no shortage of chemical and its use will help farmers prevent its spread.
