Maj-Gen Atul Kaushik (retd) has been appointed Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (HPPEIRC).

Maj-Gen Kaushik, who hails from Nahan, has held various important positions during his career in the Army. He will replace Dr KK Katoch, whose term as Chairman got over recently. Prof Kamaljit Singh from the law faculty of HP University has been appointed member of the commission. The post of member fell vacant on the completion of SP Katyal’s tenure recently. The BJP regime chose to appoint a retired Army officer and an educationist on the two posts for which several retired IAS, IPS, IFS officers had applied.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
