In a move to enhance sports infrastructure across Kangra district, the district administration has unveiled a comprehensive plan that includes the construction of a swimming pool and a basketball court in Dharamsala, alongside the proposed development of a football ground in Patola, Khanyara. Chairing a meeting of the District Sports Council at the DC office, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa directed officials of the District Youth Services and Sports Department to prepare detailed plans and cost estimates. He emphasised the need for world-class sports infrastructure to uplift sporting standards and ensure smooth conduct of major tournaments.

Highlighting the importance of functional facilities, the DC instructed officials to expedite pending repairs at the indoor stadium in Dharamsala to avoid disruption for aspiring sportspersons. He also stressed the need for smooth operation of the existing shooting range and called for necessary upgrades near the local college.

A committee, under the chairmanship of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, will be formed to oversee operations of the indoor stadium in Nagrota. Simultaneously, an integrated sports complex is being proposed in Dehra, with the Department of Youth Services and Sports tasked with initiating necessary groundwork.

Responding to a long-standing demand from sports associations, the Sports Council recommended the development of a dedicated football ground near Dharamsala. The Public Works Department has been asked to submit a feasibility report for developing the site in Patola, a location widely backed by sports stakeholders.

The DC assured that athletes demonstrating potential and commitment will receive support through the Sports Council. He also instructed that new mats be provided for the badminton court and that adequate space be allocated for weightlifting activities in the gym.

Additionally, Bairwa revealed that a gym equipped with ultra-modern facilities has already been built at the Dharamsala sports complex. Plans are also underway to host regular yoga sessions at the complex, with the Youth Services Department tasked with its implementation.

Discussions during the council meeting also included the possibility of providing sponsorships for underprivileged players and introducing entry and registration fees at indoor sports facilities to ensure their maintenance and sustainability.
