Army Public School (APS), Dagshai, today commemorated the martyrdom of their 1992 batch alumni, Maj Udai Singh, who was a Shaurya Chakra (SC) and Sewa Medal (SM) awardee. Major Singh made the ultimate sacrifice of his life in 2003 during the counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

In November 2003, Major Singh’s unit was deployed in the Rajouri district, tasked with dismantling terrorist networks. On November 29, while leading a search-and-destroy operation, his team encountered militants in a dense forest. In the ensuing fierce fight, Major Singh was severely injured but continued to engage the terrorists, killing one and wounding another, while rescuing his injured comrade. He succumbed to his injuries later.

Major Singh was posthumously awarded the SC for his gallantry, leadership and selfless courage.
