Makar Sankranti: Pilgrims take holy dip at Tattapani
Hundreds of pilgrims braved the bone-chilling cold to take a holy dip in the hot springs at Tattapani, on the banks of the Sutlej in Mandi district during the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. The event coincided with the annual two-day Lohri Makar Sankranti Fair, celebrated with religious fervour and cultural pride.
The district-level fair was inaugurated by former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi, who began the festivities with a traditional prayer ceremony, seeking prosperity and well-being for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
In his address, Awasthi highlighted the state government’s commitment to comprehensive development under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He emphasised the tourism potential of Tattapani and assured steps to enhance its appeal as a key destination. Notably, water sports activities have been introduced in the area, with plans for further expansion to attract more visitors.
Awasthi lauded the fair’s unique blend of religious significance and tourism, expressing pride in its alignment with the Mahakumbh festival. He assured the organising committee that their needs would be conveyed to the Chief Minister for necessary support. To encourage the committee, he announced a contribution of Rs 51,000 for the successful execution of the event.
Local leaders, including former Congress candidate Mahesh Raj, former Block Congress President Hariom Sharma, Bhagat Ram Vyas, and SDM Karsog Gaurav Mahajan, graced the occasion alongside members of the fair committee.
The event served as a testament to the region’s cultural heritage and tourism potential, symbolising a collaborative vision for development and prosperity.
