Shimla, August 16
Accusing the Mamata Banerjee regime of shielding an accused, who raped and murdered a doctor at a Kolkata medical college, the BJP today demanded her resignation from the West Bengal chief ministership.
Addressing a press conference here today, BJP national spokesperson Radhika Khera said, “This is not the only incident, but a reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation and rising crime against women in West Bengal.”
“It’s even more shameful that all this is taking place in a state having the lone woman Chief Minister of the country,” she said.
Raising questions over late reaction of Rahul Gandhi on the heinous crime, she alleged that he was scared of reacting on the rape incident due to fear of his alliance partners.
She said the TMC women MPs, who make a hue and cry over any crime against women across the country in the past, had not uttered a word about the heinous crime. She alleged that attempts had been made to destroy evidence on the crime scene.
“The fact is that all this has been done under the government patronage. The principal of the medical college did not even lodge a complaint,” she alleged. Even victim’s father said it appeared to be a crime committed not by one, but more people.
Khera levelled serious allegations against the medical college principal who she said had given irresponsible statements after doctor’s rape and murder. “It is so shocking that the principal, who is under scanner, has been rewarded by making him head of another college,” she remarked.
