Man charred to death in Chamba

A 40-year-old man was killed in a massive blaze that broke out in labourer's colony of the under-construction Chanju Hydropower Project in Churah subdivision of Chamba district late on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bindu, a resident of Rajera in Chamba Tehsil. According to initial reports, the fire was caused by a short circuit. As the flames spread rapidly, panic erupted among the labourers, forcing them to flee for safety. However, the victim was unable to escape and got trapped inside. Upon receiving information, local police and fire department teams rushed to the scene. Firefighters started after a great struggle. After extinguishing the fire, officials found Bindu's charred body inside. The police took possession of the body and recorded statements from other workers present at the scene. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.

Meanwhile, Naib Tehsildar Tissa, Ashish Thakur said that a village revenue officer was sent to the site to assess the situation. The affected family has been provided immediate relief assistance of Rs 25,000.
