A 35-year-old man was found dead in his rented room at Tagal Mor in McLeodganj on Thursday after a foul smell began emanating from the premises. The deceased has been identified as Amit Kumar, a resident of the Cantonment area, who was employed at a travel agency in McLeodganj. He was unmarried, the police said.

According to police sources, Amit was living alone in the rented accommodation for some time. His neighbours told the local police that they had seen Amit for the past five or six days and was not responding to phone calls. They became suspicious and alerted the police.

A police team from McLeodganj police station broke open the door of his room and recovered the body, which was later sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police said that the exact cause of death would be known after the post-mortem reported was received.
