The District and Sessions Court of Special Judge Jaswant Singh in Dharamsala has sentenced a peddler to 10-year rigorous imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him for smuggling drugs.
The matter came to light on March 14, 2018, when a team of the Indora police stopped a youngster riding a motorcycle at Ranchi Mod for checking.
During the search, cops recovered liquor, heroin and Rs 53,200 in cash from the man, identified as Sukhdev Singh, alias Nanku, of Damtal, Kangra district.
Following the seizure, a criminal case was registered at the Indora police station under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
After investigation, a challan was presented in court on July 24, 2018.
If the convict fails to deposit the fine, he would have to undergo another year in jail.
Meanwhile, Kangra SP Ashok Rattan said the accused was a notorious drug peddler with many NDPS cases registered against him.
In 2016, 2.22 gm heroin was recovered from his possession by the Indora police.
On August 5, 2020, 3.23 gm heroin was recovered from his possession by the Damtal police. On August 12, 2020, 6.96 gm heroin and 600 capsules of Schedule-H drugs were recovered from his house. On December 30, 2023, 6.84 gm heroin was recovered from him by the Damtal police.
