The Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate No. 1, Paonta Sahib, presided over by Judge Vikas Gupta, has sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for committing unnatural acts with a cow. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will undergo an additional one-year imprisonment.
Assistant District Attorney Gaurav Sharma said the convict, Avtar Singh, alias Tara Singh, son of Jagdish Singh, a resident of Kanuwala village in Paonta Sahib, was found guilty under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.
The case dates back to December 12, 2013, when complainant Neema Devi, wife of Surjit Singh, a resident of Giri Basti Rajban village, lodged a complaint at Rajban Police Post. She reported that around 5:20 pm, the accused committed the act with her cow, which was tied with a long rope about 20 feet from her house for grazing. On witnessing the incident, the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended on the spot by the complainant, Bala Devi, and Nanak Chand.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at Paonta Sahib Police Station, and the investigation was led by ASI Mehar Chand, in-charge of Rajban Police Post. The police collected all necessary evidence and filed the chargesheet in court. During the trial, the prosecution presented statements of 11 witnesses. Based on the evidence and testimonies, the court held Avtar Singh guilty and awarded the sentence.
