Suspect Suresh Kumar fled the spot on his motorcycle after firing at Sohan Singh, leaving him grievously injured.
Sohan was rushed to the Community Health Centre, Baddi, from where he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, given his serious condition.
Sohan succumbed to his injuries at the PGI.
Baddi SP Vinod Dhiman and Additional SP Ashok Verma visited the spot after the incident. A search to trace the accused was on.
The Additional SP said Sohan had married the suspect’s sister against the family wishes. As it was an inter-caste marriage, this became a sore point between the two.
Verma added that a bullet shell was recovered from the spot. It was fired from a 12 bore gun, as per preliminary findings of forensic experts.
