KULLU, DECEMBER 24
Anchal Thakur of Manali won a bronze medal yesterday in the giant slalom event at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski Competition held at Kolasin in Montenegro, Europe. She has become the first Indian woman ski athlete to have won two international medals. Earlier, she had won a bronze medal in the international skiing event held at Turkey in 2018.

Anchal’s father Roshan Thakur said she had been taking skiing training in Austria for the past two months, which would continue till January. The state provided financial assistance for her training, he said. Anchal is now looking to qualify for the Winter Olympics to be held in China in 2022. He appealed to the government to sponsor her Olympics programme. — OC
