What our readers say: Manali MC Not concerned about illegal vendors
STREET vendors have set up temporary stalls near the base of the mast of the gigantic Tricolour on Mall Road in Manali. The Manali Municipal Council has turned a blind eye to illegal encroachments in areas such as the Gompa road and Van Vihar too. As the authorities seem to be unconcerned about the illegal encroachments, these vends seem to be flourishing with impunity in many areas of Manali. Praveen, Manali
Footbridge cries for restoration
THE footbridge connecting Jia village with Parla Bhuntar was washed away in the floods in July last year. No efforts have been made to restore the bridge. Villagers have to commute an additional distance of over 2 km to reach the market. Schoolchildren are also greatly inconvenienced while reaching their schools. This bridge is also used by processions of local deities to reach the sacred Parbati-Beas confluence site in Jia. A motorable Bailey Bridge should be constructed at the earliest. Sanjeev, Jia (Bhuntar)
Stray dog menace near CM residence
PACKS of stray dogs can be spotted wandering near the Chief Minister's residence in Shimla. Many children use this stretch of the road to walk to their schools. With so many dogs wandering about, children get scared. Also, the elderly fear for their safety while passing through this stretch. The MC should take note of the issue and take appropriate action. Rajni, Chhota Shimla
