Mandi gears up for Shivratri fest, 216 deities to take part
The stage is set for the much-anticipated International Shivratri Festival 2025, to be organised from February 27 to March 5. The festival, which promises to be a unique celebration of divinity and tradition, will witness the attendance of 216 registered deities from the district. The administration outlined the key preparations for the event.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Madan Kumar stated that this year’s festival would be an extraordinary gathering of deities, marking the ‘Dev Samagam’ (divine assembly). He mentioned that invitations are being sent to all 216 registered deities, ensuring their participation in this grand spiritual occasion. “The festival is not just a religious event but it will showcase our traditions and faith,” said the ADM. He further added that each deity would be welcomed with traditional rituals. Committees have already been formed to oversee their reception.
The major focus of the preparations is convenience and well-being of the deities and their followers. The ADM assured that adequate arrangements had been made for their accommodation, food and cleanliness. Necessary supplies, including those of vegetables and grains, would be ensured in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of the devotees. The Municipal Corporation has been directed to ensure the cleanliness of the areas where the deities and followers will stay.
The festival will also feature the iconic royal procession (Shahi Jaleeb), which will follow strict protocols to preserve the sanctity of the tradition. The ADM stated that volunteers, along with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) units, will assist during the festival to ensure smooth operations.
In addition, a control room will be set up at Raj Madhav Temple complex to assist the deities and their followers. Security measures like installation of CCTV cameras have also been put in place. Traffic arrangements during the royal procession are being handled by the police department.
The ADM urged the members of the Dev Samagam Committee to report any issues promptly, ensuring that solutions are provided swiftly. The festival is expected to be a significant religious and cultural event for the district, drawing large crowds from near and far.
