The Himachal Pradesh Government is gearing up for its Jan Sankalp rally scheduled to be held in Mandi on December 11 marking the completion of three years of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress regime.

In preparation for the mega public outreach event, several senior ministers and party leaders have already reached the district to oversee arrangements and mobilise support. Paddal Ground is being readied for this event. Adequate police force and Home Guard jawans have been deployed to maintain law and order and regulate the traffic.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh arrived in Mandi today to review the groundwork and ensure smooth coordination between various departments. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, who has been camping in the district since December 8, is closely monitoring field preparations along with the local administration.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Vinay Kumar also reached Mandi and is holding meetings with party workers to energise the party cadre. According to party sources, the rally is expected to witness a significant turnout as the government plans to present its performance report of the past three years and lay out its vision for the next two years. The event may also see the announcement of several new welfare schemes, particularly targeting vulnerable sections affected by inflation and the monsoon calamities earlier this year.

Officials indicated that arrangements related to security, traffic management and crowd facilitation are being finalised. Ministers are inspecting the venue and chalking out logistical plans. The administration is expecting participation from across the state, making it one of the government’s major political shows of strength since assuming office nearly three years back.

However, the event has drawn strong criticism from the Opposition. The BJP has accused the Congress government of spending public resources on what it terms a “celebratory function” at a time when the state is still recovering from the devastating monsoon disaster. BJP leaders specifically questioned the choice of Mandi as the venue, highlighting that the district suffered massive destruction this year, with 42 deaths reported during the natural calamity.

They argued that instead of organising political rallies, the government should focus on rehabilitation work, financial aid distribution and long-term disaster mitigation measures. The Congress, however, maintains that the rally aims to reaffirm the government’s commitment to public welfare and development.
