Mandi school teacher selected for exposure visit to Singapore
A commerce teacher at Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Mandi, Ashok Thakur, has been selected for the prestigious international teacher exposure visit to Singapore. He is a recipient of the State Teacher Award. This educational tour, which will be organised under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, aims to introduce teachers to advanced global educational methodologies, technological innovations and modern teaching approaches.
During the visit, selected teachers will visit prominent educational institutions in Singapore. They will also interact with teachers and students there, gaining insights into the latest teaching techniques. The purpose of the international exposure visit is to acquaint teachers with global teaching methods, learning experiences and 21st-century educational skills, including experiential learning, group teaching, problem-solving approaches and project-based learning.
For the selection of teachers for this exposure visit, the Education Department had set a state-level eligibility criteria. This includes teacher’s academic and professional qualifications, teaching experience, efforts made for the betterment of students, various achievements of teacher, awards received at the district and state levels in the field of education and other relevant criteria.
Following this, interviews were conducted. Based on these evaluations, Ashok Thakur was selected. Notably, only two teachers from Mandi district were chosen for this visit.
Ashok Thakur was honored with the State Teacher Award by the Governor in 2023 for his outstanding contributions, including teaching commerce to students through his YouTube channel during the Covid-19 pandemic, offering his services under the Har Ghar Pathshala programme and delivering excellent educational results. He was also awarded by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in 2023 for creating an effective disaster management plan at his school. Furthermore, in 2024, Ashok Thakur was given Exceptional Educator Award by the district administration for his excellent services as the Additional Nodal Officer for Mandi district’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) during the Lok Sabha elections.
Yashvir Dhiman, Deputy Director, Higher Education, said, “Like last year, teachers will once again visit Singapore. Ashok Thakur has been selected for this visit.” He expressed hope that after this remarkable achievement, Ashok Thakur would bring more enthusiasm in the field of education. He also wished Thakur a bright future ahead. Last month, talented students from Himachal Pradesh visited Cambodia and Singapore for similar educational exposure. — TNS
