Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri participated in the second grand Shobha Yatra at the International Mahashivaratri Festival-2025 here today. The procession, featuring traditional deities, was part of the festivities that began at the deity Raj Madhav Rai Temple in Mandi town. Prior to the procession, Agnihotri paid his respects by performing prayers at the temple.

The Shobha Yatra started from the Raj Madhav Rai Temple and culminated at Paddal Ground. Thousands of devotees joined the procession, which was marked by vibrant display of culture and faith. Local deities, dressed in traditional attire, were present, adding to the festive atmosphere. Over 200 deities from the region participated in the event, making it a significant spiritual and cultural gathering.

Addressing the crowd at Paddal Ground, Agnihotri highlighted the importance of the Mandi Shivaratri festival as a symbol of faith and devotion. He noted that the gathering of deities during the festival brings recognition to Himachal Pradesh, not just nationally but internationally. Agnihotri emphasised that festivals like Mandi Shivaratri, Kullu Dasehra and Minjar are a matter of pride for the state, showcasing its rich cultural heritage.

Agnihotri also addressed the talk about the use of funds from temple donations. He strongly refuted the allegations that the state government had misused temple offerings. "The government does not take money from temples nor is there any intention to do so in the future," he clarified. He explained that the government provides financial support for the maintenance and renovation of temples using public funds, but no temple funds are ever taken by the government. "Such baseless claims are being spread by individuals with a distorted mindset," he said. He further assured that the government is committed to preserving and improving temples through restoration efforts.

He praised the efforts of Dharampur MLA Chander Shekhar and the district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner for their contribution in making Shivaratri festival an international event. Agnihotri revealed plans to continue hosting the annual Beas Arti and explore the possibility of establishing a Beas Arti Ghat for long-term cultural and religious significance.

In his speech, Agnihotri stated that the state’s Language Department is compiling a comprehensive list of dates and events for various festivals and will ensure that local artists are provided platform to showcase their talents during these celebrations. Financial support for local artists involved in festival events will also be allocated.

Regarding transportation infrastructure, Agnihotri talked about the ongoing work of a ropeway in Shimla with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore. He mentioned that ropeway in Pandoh has already become a major tourist attraction and two more are being constructed in Kullu. The initiative is part of a larger plan to connect hill stations via ropeways to promote tourism in the state.

Before attending the procession, Agnihotri visited several temples like Shyam Kali Temple in Tarna, Bada Dev, Kamrunag and Bhimakali Temple, where he offered prayers.

In collaboration with the District Administration, Mandi, a Road Safety Awareness Rally was organised to promote safe driving practices. Earlier, Agnihotri flagged off the rally from Seri Manch, encouraging citizens to stay alert while driving. The rally, which featured 100 bikes and 25 cars, proceeded through Mangvain, Chakkar, Nerchowk and culminated in Dadaur. Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Apoorv Devgan, also participated in the rally, riding a bike himself.

In his message after flagging off the rally, the Deputy CM urged drivers to “drive with caution, not in haste.”
