Mandi’s Suman becomes BSF’s first woman sniper

Sub-Inspector (SI) Suman Kumari, a native of Baryara village in the district, has become the Border Security Force’s (BSF) first woman sniper after completing an eight-week course at its Indore-based Central School of Armament and Warfare Skills (CSWT).
The feat of Suman delighted her family and friends in Mandi district. She has become a source of inspiration for others who aspire to excel in their field of choice.
“BSF is truly becoming an inclusive Force where #ladies are taking rapid strides everywhere. In a step in this direction, after rigorous training, #BSF has got the First #Mahila Sniper,” the CSWT wrote on social media platform ‘X’.
Suman had joined the BSF three years ago. She had expressed a desire to undergo sniper training. She was among 57 personnel who received eight weeks of training at the CSWT.
She completed the rigorous course with the grade of Instructor. She is now qualified to provide sniper training to other personnel. Suman, whose father Dinesh works as an electrician with the electricity department and mother Maya Devi is a housewife, had undertaken unarmed combat training earlier.
The SI did her primary education from Senior Secondary School, Baryara. After completing her BBA from Vallabh Degree College, Mandi, she passed the Central Police Forces (CPF) examination in 2021 and joined the BSF.
According to family sources, she had accepted the challenge to become a sniper. She is of the view that no challenge is easy and it is necessary to be mentally and physically strong to achieve the desired goals in life.
She is the first person in her family who is employed in armed forces. Since the beginning, she had passion to join the forces and she left no stone unturned to achieve her goal.
