Mandi, February 22
Wushu player Taran Preet Singh, a student of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, has won the bronze medal in the 90-kg weight category at the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship.
It is for the first time in the history of Himachal Pradesh University that a student has won a medal in Wushu at the inter-university meet.
Dr Chaman, Assistant Professor and Media Coordinator of Vallabh Government College, said, “The promising player was welcomed on reaching the college yesterday. All India Inter-University Championship was organised at Jammu University from February 13 to 17.”
Taran Preet Singh has expressed gratitude to the college administration, coach Nirmal Singh, Himachal Pradesh Wushu Organisation general secretary PN Azad and Sunil Sen. In the women’s category, Punam, Sania and Anita of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, Muskan Negi from RKMV, Shimla, Jyoti from Maharaja Laxman Sen College, Sundernagar, Anita from Government College, Rampur; Anchal Suryavanshi from Government College, Sanjauli in Shimla, and Sunita Devi from Government College, Nurpur, represented the Himachal team, he said.
“In the men’s category, the Himachal team was represented by Aditya Chaudhary, Siddharth Rao, Taran Preet Singh Gill, Vishal and Mukesh Kumar from Vallabh Government College, Mandi, Marshall from Government College, Rampur, Chand and Anil from Government College, Kullu, Sachin Shah from Government College Kotshera, Shimla, Mohammad Aseem from Maharaja Laxman Sen College, Sundernagar, and Ranjay Singh from Government College, Solan,” he said.
