Manimahesh-bound pilgrim dies in mishap

One Manimahesh-bound pilgrim was killed and three injured when the car in which they were travelling veered off the road and plunged into a gorge early Saturday morning at Talgut village near Banikhet town of Chamba district.

The deceased was identified as Sandeep Kumar (40), a resident of New Subhash Nagar, Ludhiana. Driver Sandeep Kumar, Karan and Rahul Kumar, all residents of Phillaur in Jalandhar, were admitted to a local hospital.

Even as the cause behind the accident is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect that the driver dozed off at the wheel due to fatigue caused by overnight journey.

On hearing about the crash, locals rushed to the scene and took the car occupants to the Civil Hospital in Dalhousie. Sandeep Kumar was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

Chamba Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav said a case had been register and investigations were on.
