The 176th martyrdom anniversary of freedom fighter Wazir Ram Singh Pathania, who hailed from Nurpur, was commemorated at Wazir Ram Singh Government College, Dehri, in the neighbouring Fatehpur Assembly constituency on Tuesday. The college, in collaboration with Himveer Jagriti Manch, a renowned social organisation of the state, organised a marathon dedicated to the valour and patriotism of the great martyr as part of the event ‘Shauryanjali-2025’.
The marathon aimed to promote physical fitness, discipline and national spirit among students. A total of 53 students from nine schools participated in the 3-km run that began from Rehan Stadium and concluded at the college campus.
Nikhil Sharma of Aastha Public School, Hatpang, bagged the first position, Yogesh Singh of CRC Government Senior Secondary School, Rehan, secured the second and Nitish Chaudhary of Government School, Rehan, stood third. The winners were felicitated with prizes and certificates by Dr VK Sharma, retired Principal of Government College, Dehri, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, inter-college poetry recitation and elocution competitions were also held on the campus, with nine participants from five colleges taking part. In the poetry recitation category, Vandana Kumari of Government College, Rey, secured the first position, Vaishali Sharma of Government College, Sugh Bhatoli, stood second and Shiva of Government College, Nagrota Bagwan, came third.
