The Kullu administration reopened tourist hotspot Marhi, near the Rohtang Pass, today. Around eight vehicles moved towards Marhi beyond Gulaba from Manali after taking the permit online.

The ADM said that the snow-clearance operation was underway on the Manali-Rohtang road to restore the pass to traffic movement.

The Rohtang Pass is a famous tourist destination in Kullu district. Tourists in large numbers visit the place every year and enjoy snow-related activities even in June.

“On the demand of tourism stakeholders and taxi operators of Manali, the district administration has inspected the condition of the road from Manali to the Rohtang Pass. The road has been found fit for the movement of vehicles up to Marhi. So, in view of public safety, we have decided to allow the movement of tourist vehicles up to Marhi from Manali,” the ADM said.

He said that Friday onwards, tourists could get online permit to visit Marhi beyond the Gulaba barrier.

He directed the Manali Administration to remove the barrier at Kothi within one or two days and set it up at Gulaba. For the past few days, a large number of tourists from plains are thronging Manali for some respite from the scorching heat wave. The tourists going to Marhi will also reduce the burden of enthisiasts’rushing to the Atal Tunnel in the coming days.
