Marine Commando Amit Rana, a native of Jwalamukhi in Kangra, has been conferred with Shaurya Chakra — a peacetime gallantry award.
He has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra for eliminating and injuring terrorists in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. President Ram Nath Kovind, who is also the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces, presented him the award at the Rastrapati Bhavan.
Amit was deployed in Kashmir for a counter-insurgency mission, “Operation Rakshak”, in September 2018. Based on Intelligence inputs about the presence of militants, his team cornered the terrorists in a cow shed and later Amit and his team managed to kill three terrorists. — OC
