According to a spokesperson, this year’s marathon will feature four race categories: the 77 km Kunzum La Ultra, 42 km Full Marathon, 21 km Half Marathon and a 10 km run. Blending endurance with Himalayan adventure, the event promises breathtaking vistas and a unique racing experience in the remote and scenic Spiti Valley.

Organised under Operation Sadbhavana, the Spiti Marathon embodies the spirit of unity, adventure and India’s Himalayan heritage. “The 2025 edition builds on the legacy of the inaugural High Altitude Marathon held in September 2024, continuing the mission to unite communities through sport,” the spokesperson said.

A total prize pool of Rs 30 lakh will be distributed across all race categories. The event is open to athletes, civilians and defence personnel, with mandatory medical checkups during bib collection to ensure participants’ fitness for high-altitude conditions. While nearly 650 runners took part in the previous edition, this year’s participation is expected to cross 2,000. The last date for registration was August 9.

For race registration, logistics, travel guidance and event details, participants can visit spitimarathon.com or follow the official pages on social media.
