Massive landslide disrupts traffic near Shimla’s St Edward’s, school closed for 2 days

Traffic movement has been disrupted on main Circular Road near St Edward's School as a result of a massive landslide that took place on Friday around 2:00 am. The landslide has raised serious concerns about the safety of nearby structures, including the school and surrounding residential buildings.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has directed the closure of St Edward's School for two days – September 19 and 20. The school authorities have been directed to conduct classes via online mode.

Officials from the district administration, police and homeguards rushed to the spot shortly after the incident and are currently engaged in clearing the debris.

Meanwhile, at least 606 roads, including two National Highways (NHs), are blocked in Himachal Pradesh while as many as 228 transformers remain disrupted due to torrential rain that continues to wreak havoc. As per the Meteorological Department, rainfall is likely to continue across the state till September 24.
