On the call of the Sanyukt Kisan Manch, the Himachal Kisan Sabha held a massive protests today at several places in Mandi district in support of the farmers’ demands. The body protested the “oppression of farmers and anti-farmer policies” of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government.

Kisan Sabha district secretary Ram Ji Das said the Centre and the Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana Government had taken severe repressive action against the farmers. The PM Modi-led government was continuously strangulating farmers to serve the interests of corporates, he added.

“The government did not fulfil even a single promise made to the farmers. The Modi-led government did not make the MSP law or withdrew the Electricity Bill and the cases registered against farmers. The Centre did not implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission,” Das said.

“Recently, The firing of bullets, tear gas shells and rubber bullets at farmers has proved that the BJP government has become a servant of the corporate and oppresses the farmers and laborers like the British,” he added.

He said farmers across the country were demanding India’s exit from the World Trade Organisation (WTO). WTO is dominated by developed imperialist countries and they impose their unilateral conditions on developing countries like India, he said.

“There is also pressure from these countries to reduce subsidies and remove the minimum support price so that their agricultural products, which are produced at a low cost, dominate the Indian market and the produce of Indian farmers gets poor prices,” Das added.

“We demand the enactment of the MSP law for farmers, the repealing of the Electricity Bill and the implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission. We also call to stop the oppression of farmers and India’s exit from the imperialist-dominated WTO,” the Kisan Sabha district secretary said.

CITU leader Bhupender Singh said protests against the Centre would be intensified in the coming days if the demands of farmers are not met in time.
