‘Matribhasha Diwas’ celebrated at Dehri college
The Departments of Hindi, English, Sanskrit and Music at Government College, Dehri, in the neighbouring Fatehpur subdivision, jointly organised an event to celebrate 'Matribhasha Diwas', focusing on the importance of languages, mother tongue and cultural heritage through discussions and performances.
Addressing the student gathering, college principal Sachin Kumar emphasised the significance of languages and mother tongue. He noted that the UNESCO had declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day to promote the global dissemination of mother language and raise awareness about linguistic and cultural diversity. He said in India, 'Matribhasha Diwas' is observed on this day to foster appreciation for linguistic diversity and multilingualism worldwide, with a particular focus on promoting the use of one's mother tongue.
Neha Mishra from the Hindi department provided a brief history and explained the significance of 'Matribhasha Diwas', while Deepshikha from the English Department recited the Pahari poem 'Khind' by poet Ratan Chand Nijhar. A college student, Rupali, also recited the poem 'Kangra Kathiyali'.
