MC begins sterilisation drive to curb dog menace in Shimla
The Shimla Municipal Corporation has started a month-long sterilisation drive to curb dog menace in the state capital. A team has been constituted for every ward of the town in a phased manner. The stray dogs would be caught and brought to hospital for sterilisation.
Dr Rahul Negi, a Veterinary Public Health Officer of the MC, said the drive had been started and would be conducted in all wards. On Wednesday, an MC team caught around 20 dogs from New Shimla and Patiyog Ward and taken to hospitals for sterilisation. The dogs would be released in their respective wards after sterilisation.
“Councillors are helping the team identify dogs that had not been sterilised earlier,” he said.
The step was taken following several incidents of dog bites in the town. Residents have complained that they are often attacked by stray dogs, making it difficult for them to even walk in market areas and streets.
A few months ago, a delegation of the Shimla Nagrik Sabha had met the Mayor, Surender Chauhan, demanding action.
They had stated that packs of stray dogs could be seen roaming around at the Mall, the Ridge and other areas of the town, and biting or attacking people.
