Municipal corporation Executive Officer Ajmer Singh gave up power subsidy on all electricity connections registered in his name here on Thursday, following the footsteps of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. In his letter to the Assistant Engineer (electricity subdivision-2), Singh said he was willing to relinquish the subsidy he was receiving from the HPSEBL. There were four electricity connections at his home, he noted, asking for the subsidy on all connections to be withdrawn at the earliest.

Speaking to mediapersons, Singh said he was inspired by the step taken by the CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

People who could afford to do so should willingly relinquish the subsidy, he added.

He said even this small act could a mass movement to make the state self-reliant, as envisioned by the CM.

Apart from relinquishing the subsidy on electricity, people should also use electricity mindfully to bring down its consumption, he added.

Quoting the phrase “electricity saved is electricity generated”, he said electricity saved was revenue generated as the saved electricity could be used for commercial purposes, adding to the state exchequer.
