Meeting dwells on possible changes to polling stations in Chamba district

A meeting was held on Thursday to discuss physical inspection and possible changes to polling stations in the district. Representatives from various political parties attended the meeting. Discussion was also held on polling stations with over 1,500 voters, damaged polling station buildings and stations deemed unsuitable for convenience of voters. Additional District Magistrate Amit Mehra presided over the meeting.

Mehra told participants that no new proposals were received from the Assembly constituencies of Churah, Bharmour and Chamba regarding making any changes to polling stations. However, in the Dalhousie constituency, three proposals to merge certain polling stations for voters’ convenience and three proposals to change polling station buildings were accepted, he said.

In the Bhattiyat Assembly constituency, a new polling station at the Government Primary School, Daudh, was proposed to reduce the distance for voters so that they could easily cast their vote in Daudh Mohal village, he said. This proposal was accepted and would be submitted to the Election Commission of India for approval, he said.

Besides, two polling stations at the Government Postgraduate College, Chowari, were reorganised to provide better services to voters. Jarei Mohal village was merged with polling station in Chowari-2, he added.

The name of polling station for Kuthed Mohal village was changed from Chuwari-3 to Kuthed, he said, while adding that this polling station was relocated to the Government Primary School, Kuthed.

Political party representatives Govardhan Ahuja and Sanjeev Gupta, Election Tehsildar Anoop Dogra, Naib Tehsildars Sanjay Shandil and Arvind Singh Minhas and election office officials Rajesh Kumar, Bittu Ram and Praveen Kumar were present at the meeting.
