Melody of success: Dharamsala’s Tejas wins prestigious scholarship

In a remarkable achievement that has brought pride to the hill town of Dharamsala and the entire state of Himachal Pradesh, young folk singer Tejas, a trainee at Sangeetanjali Kala Kendra, has been awarded the prestigious CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training) Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

This nationally recognised honour is awarded to young talents across the country who demonstrate exceptional promise in the field of Indian arts and culture. Tejas, who captivated audiences in 2024 by finishing among the top seven finalists in the Voice of Himachal competition, has once again proven his musical excellence.

In a simple yet dignified ceremony held at Government High School, Sidhbari, the award was presented to Tejas by Shilpi Beakta, Additional District Magistrate of Kangra. She praised the efforts of Tejas’ parents and expressed heartfelt appreciation for Sangeetanjali Kala Kendra and its director, Dr Janmajay, for their unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting folk music traditions.

“This is not just a personal triumph for Tejas, but a cultural milestone for Dharamsala. Such accomplishments reinforce our rich heritage and inspire the next generation,” said Beakta during her address.

Speaking to The Tribune, Dr Janmajay, who also heads the Government High School, Sidhbari, expressed his pride and joy at Tejas’ accomplishment. “Tejas is the twelfth student from our centre and the seventh to receive this honour directly from the Ministry of Culture. His dedication and natural flair for folk singing have made him a beacon of hope for Himachali music,” he said.

Currently a Class V student, Tejas hails from a family originally from Hamirpur. His parents have been a constant source of support, nurturing his early interest in music and helping him find his voice in the rich tradition of Himachali folk songs.
