Mild snow in Shimla, Kufri; 450 roads blocked

Life has started limping back to normal in Shimla and adjoining areas, even as Kufri and Shimla received mild snowfall today. The cold wave intensified and tribal areas while higher reaches froze at sub-zero temperature.

Light rain lashed mid hills. Kandaghat was the wettest in the region with 24 mm rain, followed by Shilaroo (20 mm), Sangrah (18 mm), Kotkhai (17 mm), Rajgarh (16 mm), Dharampur (15 mm), Renuka and Solan (12 mm each), Kasauli (10 mm), Jubbal (9 mm) and Paonta Sahib (8 mm). As many as 416 roads were blocked in the state including 153 in Lahaul and Spiti, 146 in Shimla, 45 in Chamba, 29 in Kullu, 26 in Mandi, 13 in Kinnaur and four in Sirmaur. As many as 446 transformers and 161 water supply schemes were disrupted.

Shimla DC Aditya Negi, who took stock of the situation at Kufri, Fagu and Mashobra, directed the officers concerned to ensure the commuters did not face inconvenience and items of daily need reached the upper Shimla area. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti recorded the lowest temperature of minus 16.5°C, while Solan recorded the day temperature at 22.6°C. The Met office predicted dry weather from January 13 to 15, and rain and snow at isolated places in high hills on January 16.
