Shimla, July 29
A delegation of the state Education Department, led by Education Minister Rohit Thakur, is in Guwahati to witness and understand the steps taken by the Assam Government to improve the education sector.
The 13-member team comprises CPS Ashish Butail, Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma, Director (Higher Education) Amarjeet Sharma, Additional Director (Higher Education) Sanjeev Sood, Director (Primary Education) Ashish Kohli and other officials of the department. The delegation held a meeting with Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and other officials, in which best practices in the field of education by both state governments were discussed in detail.
On this occasion, Thakur said the Assam Education Department had done good work to improve their education system, including how it had managed to stop ‘dummy’ admissions.
“The work done by the Assam government from the primary to the university level is commendable. We will see how we can take advantage of these experiences of Assam,” he added.
The Education Minister said Assam had complied data of the Education Department using artificial intelligence, and had taken other meaningful digital initiatives.
“Assam has taken many reformative and innovative steps in the field of education. One of the major steps is the use of the Education Setu application for online transfers of teachers. Other efforts like the ‘Samarth Portal’ and ‘Tele Education’ have been undertaken by the Assam Education Department to improve the quality of education. All these efforts have helped the Assam Government save a lot by reducing expenses related to mid-day meals, free textbooks and uniforms,” said Thakur.
