In a shocking incident near Dharamsala, the police have arrested a minor boy for allegedly shooting his father dead in Sudhed village in Kangra district. The murder occurred between 12 noon and 1 pm yesterday when no one else was at home.
Initial investigation suggests the boy fired a close-range shot to his father’s head with a licensed single-barrel .12 bore gun after an argument. The victim, identified as Vineet Kumar, alias Sonu, worked at Fortis Hospital, Kangra, and lived alone with his son.
According to police, the boy dragged the body into a room, locked it, packed his belongings and fled to Gurdaspur on a motorbike. His movement was traced through CCTV footage and mobile surveillance, leading to his arrest within hours.
Suspicion arose when the boy went missing and his phone was switched off. At the time of the incident, only Vineet and his son were present at the house.
Kangra ASP Bir Bahadur, along with Dharamsala police and a forensic team, collected evidence from the scene. The murder weapon was recovered and ballistic tests confirmed it had been fired recently.
Investigators are probing whether a family dispute triggered the killing. Other possible angles, including family discord and drug abuse, are also being examined. The police have stressed that due to the accused’s minor status and the sensitive nature of the crime, all leads are being pursued carefully.
