Una, December 16
Three men were allegedly thrashed by miscreants at Khanpur village, near the Swan riverbank, late Monday evening. The victims suspect the involvement of mining mafia behind the incident.
One of the victims, Harfool Singh of Sangrur district in Punjab, has lodged a complaint at the Santoshgarh police station. The victim said he along with one of his acquaintances Gurdeep Singh was sitting in a jeep. Suddenly, they were surrounded by some armed men. They pulled them out of the vehicle and started thrashing them.
He said Manak Khanna had a sand mining lease at the village. The miscreants also thrashed another man whom they saw on the leased land. Harfool Singh claimed that the incident had direct links with illegal mining mafia.
Harfool Singh said Manak Khanna was a legal mining lease holder in the village, but mafia was using force and power to disturb the functioning to take control of the mining trade. Additional SP Vinod Dhiman said a complaint had been received and the medical examination of the victims had been conducted. — OC
