Misleading videos on social media damaging Kullu's reputation
Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur has raised concerns over old videos being circulated on social media and misleading comparisons being drawn between Kullu's situation and severe landslides in Uttarakhand. In a communication today, Gaur said that such reports were not only inaccurate but were also damaging the reputation of Kullu and the tourism industry of Himachal Pradesh.
He said, “Some social media influencers and individuals are spreading panic by exaggerating the situation and creating unwarranted fear.” He added that due to recent weather conditions in Kullu and Manali, there had been incidents of water-logging and the rise in the water level of rivers.
Gaur said, “These events have caused minor damage and the situation is fully under control.” He lauded the efforts of Manali SDM Raman Sharma and Kullu SDM Vikas Shukla saying that the administration had done a commendable job and was actively working to address these issues to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
The MLA welcomed tourists and assured them that all tourist places in Kullu and Manali were safe and equipped with sufficient basic amenities. He said, “The situation in the district is normal and there is no reason to worry. Panic-mongers are inadvertently harming the livelihoods of thousands of people associated with tourism, adventure sports, tour and travel services, guides and allied activities. Tourism is the backbone of our economy and such rumours cause significant damage to the industry.”
Gaur urged people not to spread rumours or exaggerate things. He said, “Efforts should be made to promote responsible reporting to support the tourism industry. Himachal Pradesh, and particularly Kullu and Manali, continue to be a paradise for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts and there is no hazard, whatsoever, in visiting the Himalayan region.” He encouraged everyone to rely on official sources and verified information for accurate updates.
The MLA said that the Manali SDM coordinated with all departments and kept traffic movement smooth for local people and tourists by removing snow from all roads. He added, “The Manali police led by DSP KD Sharma worked to keep traffic smooth even during wee hours in extreme cold. All departments, including the Public Works Department (PWD), Electricity, Jal Shakti, Police, Revenue, Tourism, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and others, worked seamlessly to facilitate tourists and guests.” He claimed that it was ensured that local people and tourists did not face inconvenience in the valley.
