The Himachal Pradesh Council of Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) on Friday organised an awareness programme on the theme “Save Energy” at Government Middle School, Khalag.
As part of the event, paintings and memos highlighting the importance of energy conservation were displayed. Competitions were also held for students under the slogan “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. Students, along with School Management Committee members, planted 50 saplings of oak, cedar and citrus species.
The programme began with an awareness rally, where students marched from the school premises to the plantation site, raising slogans on energy conservation, environmental protection and the importance of tree plantation.
School Principal Kulshushan Sharma, the chief guest, stressed that conserving energy is not just the need of the hour but also a responsibility towards future generations. He urged students to adopt small energy-saving practices in their daily lives, which can have a lasting impact.
Priyanka Sharma, Scientific Officer and Co-coordinator from HIMCOSTE, conducted the programme. She explained the objectives of Mission LiFE and motivated the students to save energy, use natural resources wisely and adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment.
In the painting competition, Radhika (Lakshmi Bai House) secured the first position, followed by Mansi Rastodhi (Tagore House) in second, Akanksha (Tagore House) in third and Kahanka Thakur (Vivekanand House) in fourth. Tagore House won the overall first position.
