Mandi, August 11

Residents of the Miyar valley in Lahaul and Spiti district are irked over poor telecommunication services and irregular power supply.

They said that there was a proposal to install Jio network towers to improve telecom services in the area, but no progress had been made in this direction. As of now, the BSNL is the sole service provider, which often remains disrupted.

They complained that erratic power supply was another major issue. Power remains suspended for a long period during the winter. Since the valley remains under a thick blanket of snow, staff of the HP State Electricity Board finds it difficult to restore power supply.

Gopal, a valley resident, said during the summer, they suffer due to low voltage. He added that power lines should be laid underground to prevent hardships during winter months.

Amarnath, pradhan of Tingret gram panchayat, said that the residents of the valley had been suffering due to the poor telecommunication services. The government had proposed Jio services in the area, but nothing had been done. He urged the government to find out a permanent solution to their problems.
